Mr. Hallesby sheds light on the fact that no work in the kingdom of God can be achieved without prayer. It is an absolutely necessary “prerequisite.” This struck me as a very interesting concept because it helps to shed light on how insignificant my own prayer life has been in succeeding His kingdom. The prerequisite to these things happening is actually a form of labor because there’s SO MUCH to pray about! The image that hit me the most in this chapter was imagining if we could see all the visible and invisible needs of everyone around us (in the present and future!). We would have no time to rest from prayer if this were the case because of the innumerable needs of God’s children. But this should be a refreshing thing knowing that God is in control and all we have to do is open the 24-hour hotline to God so that He may attend to both our helplessness and others’ in His own space and time. We must ask definitively, frequently, and in spite of Satan’s silent road blocks (whether they be external or internal). After all, God is good! If we only take the time to open our hearts to Him, nothing is impossible.

PRAYER IS EVENGELISM! Heck yes! So I have only read part of the first chapter but let me tell you I am super excited about what I have read so far. Ole does not beat around the bush, he tells you how it is, prayer is _________. It's so refreshing to talk about what prayer is, its spirit, its purpose, its design; rather than come up with some formula for praying right. Prayer is relationship with Jesus, period. Us praying has nothing to do with us, but everything to do with God and that interaction. Prayer is about surrender, about telling God into areas of your life you don't want, admitting you don't know what the crap you're doing, about allowing Him to show you what's important in life, who to care about, how to better know Him and love others. Prayer is about learning, about knowing God. Prayer is about relationship, with God, with others, and others with God. What more is there?
